Is sugar bad for you?
Well you probably already suspect the answer, and you’re most probably right.
I’m going to share with you the main damaging effects of this sweet poison. If
you said sugar is not good for you then you were right, but in all truth it’s
fructose that’s not good for you. This ties in nicely with the first point.
Sugar
converts directly to fat.
Sugar is made from 50%
Glucose and 50% Fructose and the glucose part is the bit which will get
metabolized and used as energy, the fructose part will get turned to fat. When
you eat 120 calories of glucose, less than one calorie is stored as fat. 120
calories of fructose results in 40 calories being stored as fat, that’s 40x’s
more. Consuming fructose is essentially consuming fat!
Why this happens is
because every cell in the body, including the brain, utilizes glucose. So that
means much of it is “burned up” straight after you consume it.
By contrast, fructose
is turned into free fatty acids (FFAs), VLDL (the damaging form of
cholesterol), and triglycerides, which get stored as fat.
Fructose
makes us eat more.
Every type of molecule
we eat has corresponding hormones that regulate our appetite and tell us when
we’re full. It’s like having a little person inside your body shouting, “hey
you’ve had enough to eat, you can stop now”. The only problem is with fructose
is, that doesn’t happen.
You see fructose
creates leptin resistance which means that you will still feel hungry and your
brain can’t see it.
This is because with
leptin resistance you have high levels of leptin from the high fructose intake
which makes your brain think you are in starvation mode even though you’re
obese, meaning you’ll keep storing much more fat plus you’ll feel hungry when
you’re not.
We don’t want that!
Fructose
can make us sick.
Over the years
there has been more and more studies into the effects of fructose on the body.
These studies have found that fructose:
– Weakens our immune system making it harder to fight of viruses
and infections.
– May cause leptin resistance, throwing body fat regulation out
of whack and contributing to obesity.
– Causes fertility issues.
– Makes people insulin resistant, which could lead to obesity
and type II diabetes
– Is linked to dementia
– Has been linked to all sorts of cancers including ovaries,
breast, prostate, rectum, pancreas, lung and stomach.
– Is just plain
addictive!
Studies are already
proving sugar to be the biggest cause of fatty liver which leads to insulin
resistance, which is now being viewed as the biggest precursor to things like
heart disease, diabetes and cancer.
It’s a bit of a bummer
as sugary treats do taste great but believe me that once you get off the sweet
poison you wont miss it one bit and you’ll feel the best you’ve every felt and
will wish that you quit sugar a lot sooner.
